Back Blurb

When Maurice Hutch, a budding mechanic with a small drinking problem, finds himself turned into a vampire, his whole world is flipped upside down. A sudden string of grisly murders haunts the town and the residents (including the local vampires) are looking for someone to blame. Maurice has to swap gears fast if he wants to keep his relationships, his job, and on the right side of the dirt.

Audience

While I am an adult who primarily writes for other adults, I think young adults and teens could enjoy The Dogtrot Murder. There's bad language, because fuck it, and sexual references but nothing you wouldn't see on Buffy. Think of it as a Goosebumps book for grown-ups!

It's Illustrated!

More adult fiction needs pictures. I will die on this hill. The Dogtrot Murder has roughly fifty illustrations, all which I drew in a covid haze while eating nothing but water and chocolate donuts from walmart. It shows, but hey, finished is better than perfect! If you like the illustrations, I'm available for commission.

History

The Dogtrot Murder is a passion project that took me a long, long time to finish. It existed in various forms (artwork, random scattered paragraphs, elaborate AMVs in my head) for several years until 2010 when I completed the first draft as a NaNoWriMo project. Then it took another ten years of fussing with to get it to completed. It was finally published for the world to read in February of 2023.

What's in the Future?

At the time of this writing (January 2025) there are currently TWO sequels in the works with more planned in the future. I would love to share several episodic tales of Maurice and his friends.
