Origin

Crownless was created in July of 2012 when I began exploring my gender in ernest. I knew Something was up for a while, but that was when I decided to actually do something about it. It was also an opportunity to transition from using Wolfy as my main fursona, which was a source of confusion for some people. Wolfy was occasionally drawn a little differently and eventually became Deuteronomy, a character all her own that featured in some books I was writing. It felt weird to have my fursona in the books so I needed to branch out. Enter, Crownless.

I chose a deer because of the deciduous nature of their antlers and the fact that once a deer's antlers had shed in winter, it would be hard to tell at a distance if they were male or female. That was what I wanted for myself because at the time, I didn't know what to identify as. This was also right around the time that I got my hair cut short, SHORT short, for the very first time and I loved what I saw in the mirror. I was also doing a lot of soul searching re: my faith and somehow rediscovered the therian community. I wrote a long winding essay about how I was a deer inside and I suppose for the time being, that was true. But it was also before I was diagnosed with OCD, so we didn't really have an answer as to why I was so hyperfixated on deer. I had decided that I was going to be the VERY BEST at "liking deer" and be the NUMBER ONE FAN. I bought and read so many books about deer. Collected plushies and figurines. This was different than just 'collecting' something the way I collect Pokemon stuff. I felt like I HAD to or I wouldn't REALLY be a deer inside. I had this whole journal for my deer thoughts. I became very persnickity about how other people enjoyed deer in their art and stories and passing interests. I was kind of a huge assholea bout it. It had to be annoying. Bless my friends for sticking with me throughout that.

Then, one day in 2020, something S N A P P E D inside me and I wanted NOTHING else to do with deer. I didn't want deer gifts, I didn't want to answer questions about Crownless, I didn't want people to link me to deer even though that was my SINGULAR personality trait for about eight solid years. It was a mess.

After developing my secondary fursona, Crash, and having some time away from Crownless, I started to drift back towards using him as the Pandemic wore on and I watched "Inside" by Bo Burnham.

I started to flip flop between the two fursonas, thinking of one as inside and the other as outside. I used Crash in a lot of positive art and I used Crownless in more serious pieces. This occasionally flip-flopped as well.

Then, in 2023, my third eye snapped open and I started shipping them together, haha. That's where we are now.

The Story So Far

Crownless is a space deer! She can fly and breathe in space. Sometimes she's on all fours, sometimes she's a more traditional anthro. Her antlers float above her head as an outward symbol for others to observe. Sometimes they are physical objects, sometimes they are not. Sometimes they are drawn realistically and sometimes they are drawn simply as sticks that resemble old radio/tv antennae.

Sometimes an arrow or two can be seen protruding from her hips, trailing cursed smoke. Sometimes she may even appear headless.

    ALT FORMS:

    The Peryton
The Peryton was developed when my sister was dying in our house. I had so many difficult feelings and everything turned into a grim waiting game. The house was turbulent during that time. This fursona is associated with negative feelings.

Sunrise Crownless This color varient of Crownless was born from a late night listening of Hope of Morning by Icon by Hire. It is a triumphant fursona, a moment of peace and realization and hope. This Crownless is incredibly powerful. Alternate theme is The Universe by Gregory Alan Isakov.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Can I call you Crownless?
It's fine if you know me from way back and still think of me as Crownless. I do prefer Wolfy though.

What do the different styles of Crownless's antlers mean?
Sometimes extreme emotions will result in more scribbly or abstract antlers.

What does it mean when Crownless does or doesn't have his antlers out? Does it mean you're feeling more or less masculine?
No. It's a secret third thing.

You have multiple fursonas that interact/represent different parts of yourself. Are you plural?
    No.

Sometimes you draw Crownless's antlers in a circular form/like a halo. What does that mean?
It differs from piece to piece really. I'm just going by vibes. I can't define it for you. I promise I'm not trying to be aloof.

Can I draw a character with floating antlers?
I used to feel very protective about this. Still kind of do. But I'm not going to stop you.
